It’s the most remote spot of all of the NASCAR venues. The wildest two weekends of the nearly 10 month NASCAR season can be summed up in one word. “Dega!” It has often been compared to Mardigras, only instead of New Orleans, it takes place on thousands of uninhabited acres in central Alabama. No bull, you should bring some Mardi-gras style beads. It may not be the best scenery in the world, but you will see more than you could ever want. This is one to leave the women and children you love, and also the faint of heart at home.

Most sports websites have at some point ranked the SEC schools in terms of hot girls, well now it is my turn. I feel that my list will be much more precise due in a large part to the 8 years of research I have poured into this article. My five years at UGA, followed up by three in Atlanta, and now 6 months in Nashville at Vanderbilt puts me in a unique position to really give an accurate portrayal.

Known for its toughness on IDs (i.e., if you have a fake, don’t even try to get in), The Red Shed is a cool little spot that sits directly behind Eagens (and if you don’t know where Eagen’s is, it’s cool – no one else does either). If you are in the mood to kick it outside, this bar offers outside seating.

The best burgers in T-Town. Mugshots is a huge restaurant and bar that is famous for their half-pound burgers served on a sourdough bun. Dreamland is by far the most famous place to eat in Tuscaloosa. It was started in 1958 and ships their famous southern Ribs all over the country. This is the biggest event of the spring at Bama and draws fans from all over the South. It is very similar to going to a Bama game during the fall except for one major difference, everyone everywhere you look is a Bama fan.

Birmingham Crawfish Boil

This is one of the biggest events in the South and draws college students from all the surrounding areas. Students from Auburn and Alabama frequent the event as something to do when school lets out. It is fun for students not only because of the delicious crawfish, but the huge party that goes on all day. Some of the biggest bands in the country even come to entertain the screaming crowd.

Founded in 1831, UA is the flagship university of the University of Alabama System

The Campus

Landmarks include the President's Mansion, the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library, and Denny Chimes, a campanile equipped with a 25-bell carillon, all of which are located on or near the Quad, the central green on campus. The Quad lies roughly at the geographic center of the campus. On-campus cultural facilities include the Paul Bryant Museum, the Alabama Museum of Natural History, the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art, and the Frank M. Moody Music Building, which houses the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra.

Greek Life

The University today recognizes 48 social Greek letter organizations. An unknown number of unofficial fraternities and sororities also exist. Three governing boards oversee the operations of the Greek organizations: the Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic Association, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Over one quarter of undergraduates at Alabama are now members of a social Greek letter organization.

The number of Greek men has more than doubled since 2002 to almost 2,500 for the fall of 2008 with fifteen fraternities now recording memberships of more than one hundred. For the fall 2008 over 3,500 females or 30% of undergraduate females were in a social sorority at UA. Following 2008 fall recruitment, almost all Panhellenic sororities participating through all rounds had potential new member class sizes of 80 or more; nearly all Panhellenic sororities also now have more than 200 total members.

Football

The University of Alabama football program is the most nationally-known of all Alabama's intercollegiate athletics programs. Started in 1892, it is one of the oldest and most tradition-rich football programs in the country. The team has won 21 SEC titles and 12 national championships in major polls. They are also known for sayings like

"Hey Auburn! Hey Auburn! Hey Auburn! We just beat the hell out of you! Rammer jammer, yellow hammer. Give 'em hell, Alabama!"
